Mecca Bingo, Gala Bingo take to the field for charity

24 July 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo clubs across the South East will be putting down their dabbers for the evening to raise money for two charities.

13 South East clubs taking part in the football match, which will be taking place at the home of Maidstone United, The Gallagher Stadium, on Friday, 28 July, with the game kicking off at 7:30 p.m.

The Mecca Bingo teams will be taking to the pitch to raise funds for Carers Trust to help support the seven million carers in the U.K. Having been charity partners since February 2014, Mecca Bingo recently celebrated an incredible fundraising milestone of £1,500,000 by undertaking various charity initiatives and fundraising activities.

Gala Bingo will also be polishing their football boots in the hope of raising as much money for their chosen charity partner, Variety. The charity provides practical, tangible help that makes an immediate difference to children and families who have to cope with sickness, disability or disadvantage.

Football fans are being encouraged to come along and cheer on the teams. Attendance is free and collection buckets will be available for both charities for any voluntary donations.

Mark Brenton, area manager for the South East at Mecca Bingo, is hoping for a competitive yet friendly game as the teams compete to raise more than £10,000 for their chosen charities.

Mark said, "At Mecca Bingo, we really appreciate the work that carers do, and we love to get involved in as many different fundraising activities as we can.

"The football fixture will be the match of the day for South East football fans, not only because it falls during pre-season in professional football, but also because of the electric atmosphere we are expecting as the community comes together to raise funds for those in need.

"The money raised will help Carers Trust to support thousands of unpaid carers through a grants fund, to give carers the equipment and skills they need to carry out their caring roles, while also ensuring that their own health and well-being are looked after."

Bradley Wise, general manager at Gala's Chatham club and one of the event organizers, said, "Gala Bingo is proud to be associated with Variety, the Children's Charity, the charity of choice for the Bingo Association.

"Our customers and staff are always supportive of their local community, we are delighted to be playing a part in raising money for this worthy cause. As an industry, we hope to achieve our target to raise £1 million by the end of 2018."
