Manitoba: Questions raised over high cost of management company fees

17 October 2011

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Questions are being asked about fees paid to a U.S.-based management company by a First Nations casino, CBC News reported.

South Beach Casino has paid $43 million to Hemisphere Gaming MB Co., while it's net earnings were $39 million, the report explained.

The casino is owned by seven First Nations bands with an economic mandate to support First Nations in Manitoba, the CBC News report mentioned.

A spokesperson for the First Nations partnership defended the management fees saying Hemisphere Gaming were the only company who would provide a loan to establish the casino, CBC said.
