Gaming NewsLouisiana Gambling Numbers Up18 January 2006BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – As reported by the Daily Advertiser: "Gamblers have been flocking to Louisiana's riverboats, losing 42 percent more in December than they did in the same month a year ago. "Even with three riverboats and the New Orleans land-based casino still closed due to hurricane damage, every gambling market was up, according to state police revenue reports given the State Gaming Control Board on Tuesday. "Gamblers statewide lost $177.3 million to the riverboats in December, up $52.5 million from the $124.7 million they lost in December 2004. "…State Gaming Control Board Chairman Charles Gaudin of New Orleans, said no one really knows why the gambling business has done so well since hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but he predicted it will get even better during the next few weeks. "…Gaming board member Dennis Kinchen of Shreveport said no one knows why the state's gambling business is doing well…" |
