Lee's Full House Charity to make holidays even happier for Massachusetts families14 December 2012
BOSTON, Mass. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -— New England’s top professional poker player Bernard Lee will on Dec. 20 donate holiday packages worth about $250 each to more than 50 children in the Lawrence, Mass. area as part of The Full House Charity Program, which provides a minimum of $20,000 annually to organizations across New England that focus on children. Vermont’s renowned Cabot Cheese is the lead sponsor.
“In the spirit of the holiday season, my hope is that these packages bring joy to struggling families. I feel so grateful for my family that I want to share some holiday cheer with families other than my own,” said Lee, a Wayland resident whose son and daughter will help him hand out the packages. “Giving back to the community is the mission of the Full House Charity Program.”
Lee and his children will visit Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, 73D Winthrop Avenue, Lawrence, at 6:00 p.m., where they will meet with 27 families with 53 children and hand out the packages. Lee will also host a dinner.
“This is the second year that Bernard has helped GLFHC families in our empowerment group programs. His contribution of thoughtful gifts and food goes a long way towards making the holidays special and helping our participants feel important. We thank him and Cabot for their investment in our community,” said Dr. Jeffrey S. Geller, director of Integrative Medicine and Group Programs at the health center.
Each family will receive a gift certificate to local restaurant and a cheddar sampler pack from Cabot Cheese. Each child will receive a holiday package that includes winter clothing, a hat and gloves, books, toys, ball/game, art supplies, holiday sweets, a stuffed animal and a Cabot Cheese children’s fun pack. Lee honored specific requests from every child.
Lee’s charity program, launched in February 2011, provides $20,000 worth of goods and fundraising annually to children-focused organizations in the New England area.
The $20,000 program commitment includes these holiday packages and more than $6,000 raised earlier this year for two additional charities: Playing It Forward, Inc. in Framingham, Mass., which provides new and used sports equipment to underserved children around the world, and a local Massachusetts chapter of Best Buddies.
The program’s sponsor, Cabot Cheese, has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919, and is known as makers of “The World’s Best Cheddar.”
Lee catapulted into the poker spotlight after he finished 13th in the 2005 WSOP and became the top New England finisher. Lee has become a media personality since becoming professional and playing on the tournament circuit, during which time he has won almost $2 million and three titles.
In November, Lee was selected to serve as commentator of the World Series of Poker Circuit on ESPN3. He is also a commentator for the Eastern Poker Tour. Previously, Lee was co-host of online poker show, ESPN Inside Deal.
