Lawyer Bets $100,000 on Fairmont Park

ST. LOUIS, Minnesota – As reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "A legal high roller from Madison County with a yen to win the Kentucky Derby is staking $100,000 that one big night of horse racing in August will rejuvenate fading Fairmount Park.

"The Circle C Race Night on Aug. 6 might draw one of the finest collections of thoroughbreds to the track in its history, and the biggest daily purse there - about $200,000 - since the last running of the Fairmount Derby a decade ago.

"Half the money for the stakes races has been put up by Jeff Cooper, an Edwardsville trial lawyer who has made millions in asbestos litigation and now is spending some of his fortune on expensive race horses.…"
