Gaming NewsLawsuit against Northwood Casino dismissed20 November 2007WASHINGTON -- As reported by the Bellingham Herald: "A lawsuit regarding the new Northwood Casino has been dismissed by a federal judge. "The North County Community Alliance filed the lawsuit in July against the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Indian Gaming Commission, alleging the agencies did not properly determine if the Nooksack Indian Tribe's new casino complied with federal laws. The casino opened last week at Northwood and Halverstick roads, north of Lynden. "The lawsuit was dismissed Friday by U.S. District Court Judge John C. Coughenour, who said in court documents that either the statute of limitations had expired on the allegations or they do not fall under the court's jurisdiction. "Edward Wurtz, general counsel for the Nooksacks, said they had expected this ruling. The tribe was not specifically named as a defendant in the lawsuit..." |
