Lake of the Torches Resort wins Romero Awards

5 August 2008

LAC DU FLAMBEAU, Wisconsin -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Lake of the Torches Resort Casino in Lac du Flambeau Wisconsin took home four awards and five honorable mentions at the annual Romero Awards held during the recent 2008 Casino Marketing Conference at the Paris Las Vegas resort and casino on July 24th. The Romero Awards honor the most significant achievements in casino marketing and promotion in the gaming industry.

The resort-casino received one Diamond Award, one Gold Award, two Silver Awards along with five honorable mentions during the conference at which the gaming industry recognizes the top gaming facilities for their innovation, creativity, and implementation in casino marketing. The Romero Awards are named after John Romero, a casino marketing pioneer and author, and are considered the standard for excellence in casino marketing.

"The Romero Award is such a high honor to receive from our peers in the global gaming industry," said Lake of the Torches' Chief Executive Officer Bill Guelcher. "Having this property named amongst some of the top casino operations in the nation and the world, including Las Vegas properties, assures us that Lake of the Torches continues to be an innovator in providing a superior experience for our guests. Most importantly though, while we recognize the outstanding efforts and professionalism of our marketing team lead by Michael J. Broderick, our director of marketing, we also know that these awards are a reflection of the efforts of the entire staff and management at Lake of the Torches and the success of marketing our property as a whole."

Lake of the Torches was honored with the following awards (all were presented in the small to midsize casino category):

Diamond Award: Direct Mail Campaign – "Mystery Cash" promotion (held in March 2007).

Gold Award: Casino Floor Promotion – "Winning Mood" (held February, March and April 2008).

Silver Award: PR Promotion – "Gathering of the Guides" (held July 2007).

Silver Award: Website Marketing – "Fun at Flambeau" promotional game hosted on the Lake of the Torches website,

Honorable Mentions: VIP Promotion – "A Medieval Night"-loyalty-based; E-mail marketing – "Fall Stay and Play" E-mail: VIP Promotion – "VIP Appreciation Day" – revenue and loyalty based; Direct Mail Marketing – "Prize Pies"; Casino Floor Promotion – "We Love Our Locals".

In addition, Dennis Conrad, President and Chief Strategist of Raving Consulting, (one of the producers of the Romero Awards and Casino Marketing Conference), included Lake of the Torches' "More Moolah" direct mail promotion as part of his best list in his annual "Best and Worst Casino Promotions of the Year" presentations at the conference.

"Lake of the Torches Resort Casino has continued its winning ways in the Romero Awards, the most prestigious awards in the gaming industry, by collecting a Diamond, Gold, two Silvers and five Honorable Mentions in the 2008 competition," said Conrad. "While I am not sure how Lake of the Torches continues to crank out such award winning marketing, it is clear that they continue to 'get it' and that excellent casino marketing focuses on its customers, its employees and its communities. Kudos to Lake of the Torches and I would expect its competitors to be beating down its doors (or sneaking around its rugs) to see how it does it!"

"We are committed to remaining at the top of the game in terms of creativity and the energy we put into our marketing programs," Guelcher said. "Our guests can be assured that Lake of the Torches will remain at the forefront of the gaming industry and can expect latest and best in casino promotions in the months and years to come."

Situated on the shores of Pokegama Lake and nestled in Wisconsin's Northwoods, the Lake of the Torches Resort Casino has a feel of a classic Northern retreat and reflects its Ojibwe culture and heritage. The casino has over 800 slot machines (including a non-smoking area), 12 blackjack tables and three poker tables, a high-stakes Bingo Hall seating up to 500 persons, the 24-hour Game Time Grill and the Eagle's Nest Restaurant.
