Jury rules in Iowa casino case

IOWA -- As reported by the Des Moines Register: "A Polk County District Court jury has awarded a $10 million judgment against West Des Moines businessman Gerald Kirke and his gambling business, Wild Rose Entertainment, for allegedly breaching a contract to manage an Emmetsburg casino.

"The jury ruled in favor of Sioux City businessman John Pavone and his casino management firm, Signature Management Group.

"Pavone, who is president of Signature Management, claimed he had entered into a contract with Kirke and Wild Rose to manage the Wild Rose hotel casino in Emmetsburg, which opened last year.

"The defendants denied they had entered into a contract with the plaintiffs to manage the Emmetsburg project. They contended the parties did not intend to be bound prior to signing a separate, formal written management agreement..."
