Japan considers legalizing casinos

JAPAN -- As reported by the Macau Daily Times: "Japan could soon follow in Macau's footsteps by overhauling its strict gaming laws and aiming to lure rich Asian tourists to boost its economy if Japanese lawmakers approve a bill to legalise casinos in the country.

"Japan's ruling party and the government are expected to begin talks this month on a proposal to legalise casinos, an adviser to the party said yesterday.

"Lawmakers from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have already drawn up proposals to allow a handful of huge Vegas-style casinos, which could open their doors within a few years..."
