Italy Jan-Apr overall gambling up 10 pct

MILAN, Italy -- As reported by Reuters: "Gambling wagers in Italy rose 10 percent in the first four months of the year to 17,603 billion euros ($23,950 billion), the state monopoly AAMS said on Monday in a statement posted on its website.

"Total wagers in April, including slot machines, sports betting, scratch cards and lotteries, were 4.442 billion euros, it said, without giving a comparative.

"A year earlier, in April 2008, wagers were 4.076 billion euros, according to the Agipro news agency..."
