Isle of Capri may buy Casino Aztar

MISSOURI – As reported by the Kansas City Star: "St. Louis-based Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. may be a front-runner in spirited, private bidding to purchase Casino Aztar in Caruthersville, Mo.

"Isle, which moved its headquarters from Biloxi, Miss., last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, operates Isle of Capri casinos in Kansas City and Boonville, Mo.

"…Officials at the Missouri Gaming Commission and Bank of America, which is handling the sale for Kentucky-based ownership group Columbia Sussex Corp., are saying even less. A decision could come this week.

"…Casino Aztar is a modest prize, with 651 slots and 25 table games on a 21,400-square-foot casino floor. The riverboat grossed $28.4 million last year. Kansas City's Ameristar Casino last year paid more than twice that sum in state casino taxes…"
