Island View Casino looks to expand

GULFPORT, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Island View Casino co-owner Rick Carter told his landlords Tuesday that business is good - so good in fact, that the casino would like to extend its relationship with the state port at Gulfport.

"'We want to talk to the port about extending our lease,' he said during the State Port Authority meeting. 'We have another 35 years left on our lease. For financing purposes, we'd like to extend that.'

"The port is limited by law to a maximum lease of 99 years, and has never done more than a 50-year lease. Carter said, off the cuff, that if they could tack on a 50-year extension, that would help.

"…It plans on more than doubling that with a casino expansion under construction to the west of the hotel north of U.S. 90, which was the Grand Casino's Oasis Hotel. They will also add a 750-car parking garage on the west portion of the property…"
