Indiana Downs Responds to Kentucky Ban

INDIANA – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "If Indiana Downs's new off-track betting parlor cannot carry Kentucky races, then the Shelbyville, Indiana, track does not want any wagering facility in the state to take Kentucky races.

"The Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association denied access to Kentucky signals for Indiana Downs's OTB site in Evansville, Indiana, which is just north across the Ohio River from Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky. Indiana Downs is scheduled to open a new OTB facility on March 22 in Clarksville, Indiana, which also just across the Ohio River from Louisville, and the Kentucky HBPA will similarly not allow Kentucky signals there.

"…Marty Maline, executive director of the Kentucky HBPA, estimates that business at Trackside Louisville could dip by as much as 20% if the Clarksville OTB carried Kentucky's signal, which could result in a $1.2-million annual reduction in purses for Kentucky horsemen…"
