Indiana county to set aside casino money

INDIANA -- As reported by the Louisville Courier-Journal: "Concerned that its annual jackpot from the Caesars casino could disappear some day, Harrison County's commissioners are taking steps to sock some of it away.

"They instructed County Attorney John Colin yesterday to examine how to protect the annual profit-sharing money that the county receives directly from the riverboat. As of now, roughly $12 million in such annual payments is funneled into two endowment funds. The Harrison County Community Foundation has received a 25 percent share since 2005, while a separate county endowment fund gets 75 percent.

"Commissioner James Goldman, who raised the idea of having all of the so-called 'incentive' money from Caesars go to the county endowment, said he believes it's wise to set aside as much as possible.

"...Someday, he said, Kentucky will legalize casino gambling, siphoning a big share of gaming revenue from Ohio River boats and the communities that share the riches..."
