Horseshoe Casino expansion details released

HAMMOND, Indiana – As reported by the Northwest Indiana News: "Construction trailers sit huddled at ground level of a Horseshoe Casino parking garage, control central for a $485 million project to replace the riverboat with a floating gambling hall six times its size.

"The finished product -- expected to debut in summer 2008 after a construction project like none other seen before in the region -- will house twice the number of slot machines and table games as the existing Horseshoe, with a 3,000-seat entertainment center upstairs.

"Initial work got under way in early November, as Horseshoe loading docks were built out to handle incoming construction equipment and materials.

"…Horseshoe's new, larger casino, with its entertainment complex and other amenities, is expected to help parent company Harrah's Entertainment Inc. keep its competitive edge in the Indiana and Illinois markets…"
