'Hillbillies' Slot Machine Makes Driver a Millionaire

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee -- As reported by the Daily News Journal: "Much like Jed Clampett from one of his favorite television shows, Gerald Wade struck the jackpot by doing one of the things he enjoys the most.

"Wade, a tow truck driver from Murfreesboro, became an instant millionaire Saturday playing The Beverly Hillbillies 1-cent progressive slot machine at the Fitzgeralds Casino Hotel in Tunica, Miss.

"...Something told him he would win if he played the machine that day, Wade said.

"...Wade had been playing the machine for five minutes and had wagered $20 before hitting the $1.4 million jackpot. He has frequented Tunica casinos for years, he said, sometimes making the trip twice a month.

"...The odds of winning the statewide progressive jackpot are comparable with the odds of winning the lottery, said Larry Lovell, spokesman for IGT, a gaming company that operates The Beverly Hillbillies and other games..."
