Gaming NewsHarness Racing Tracks Share Fate30 May 2005SALEM, New Hampshire – As reported by the Boston Globe Staff: "It's a tale of two states. If Massachusetts doesn't get slot machines, Suffolk Downs may not be around in 2007, and the situation is similar at Rockingham Park in New Hampshire. ''We're committed to harness racing through 2006,' said Rock vice president Ed Callahan yesterday, the opening day of live racing. 'What happens after that, I don't know yet. When the time comes that we can't make racing work, we're going to have to move in another direction. Hopefully, gaming will come before that happens. But that time is not far away.' 'The New Hampshire Senate rejected an expanded gaming bill in March, but Callahan believes there's still a chance that something will be done before the Legislature adjourns at the end of June.
