GTECH Sells Turfway Interest

FLORENCE, Kentucky– As reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer: "GTECH, a Rhode Island maker of slot machines and video lottery terminals, has sold its one-third interest in the Turfway Park thoroughbred race track.

"GTECH's interest was purchased by Turfway's other two owners: gaming giant Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas and Keeneland Association, operator of the Lexington race track. Terms were not disclosed.

"Harrah's and Keeneland are now equal partners in the track, Turfway Park president Bob Elliston said Tuesday.

"The purchase deepens Harrah's interest in Kentucky, where legalization of casino-style gambling has been discussed in the General Assembly.

"Turfway has been leading the lobbying effort to convince lawmakers to legalize gaming and allow race tracks to operate casinos.

"…Elliston said the lobbying effort will continue when the Kentucky General Assembly begins meeting in January.

"…In a statement, GTECH vice president Robert Vincent said the company is divesting to focus on its core businesses…"
