Grospellier wins EPT Madrid High-Roller event

9 May 2011

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Team PokerStars Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier has won the €25,000 High Roller event at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Grand Final in Madrid.

The Frenchman topped the field of 58 world class players after defeating Benny Spindler heads-up to scoop the €525,000 first prize.

Revelling in his latest tournament win, ElkY said: “It feels really wonderful to win, as it’s over two years since my last major win at the PCA. This is the most prestigious of the EPT High Roller events as it’s the Grand Final.”

The win was made all the sweeter given that ElkY has bubbled the same event in each of the last two EPT Grand Finals.

Final table

ElkY went into the final table as one of the shorter stacked players but rallied well, picked up big hands at the right time, and then overcame a big chip deficit to win his second PokerStars.com EPT High Roller title. He won his first High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2009.

The win takes ElkY’s lifetime live tournament winnings to more than $7 million, extending his lead at the top of the all-time money list for French players.

Earlier, fellow Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso finished fifth for €100,000. She had also been vying for her second EPT High Roller title having won one before at the Monte Carlo Grand Final in 2009. Rousso’s latest win takes her lifetime live tournament winnings to more than $3 million.
