Greenville Casino Breaks Ground

GREENVILLE, Mississippi – As reported by the Delta Democrat Times: "After nearly three years of anticipation, Greenville will soon see the beginnings of a new gaming establishment in the downtown area.

"Officials have confirmed that the Delta Blues Casino will break ground next week for the much-sought-after downtown convention center, part of the casino's required land-based development.

"Greenville Vice Mayor Charles Turner said Friday that groundbreaking for the facility will be on May 8.

"…The facility has been long desired by local government, business and civic leaders, partly as an overall effort to increase commerce downtown and to provide an alternative to the Washington County Convention Center for large gatherings.

"According to a deal by Preiser and the Greenville City Council at that August meeting, the Delta Blues Casino will own and operate the facility for two years, after which the city will assume ownership while Delta Blues continues to operate it for another five years…"
