Greek gambling company extends monopoly

30 September 2011

GREECE -- While Greece's wider economic turmoil continues, Greek gambling company OPAP has agreed to pay 935 million euros to the government, Reuters reported.

The payment will extend its monopoly until 2030 and permit it to license 35,000 video-lottery machines in Greece, the report said.

The Greek government is trying to raise billions through privitization of state assets in order to secure a further EU/IMF bailout, Reuters reported.
