Georgia Satellites to visit Cherokee Casino Roland

31 July 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- In the mid-1980s, as rock 'n' roll had begun changing direction, the Georgia Satellites came crashing into the charts with a surprise hit single to remind everyone how to rock.

On 4 August, the band brings its 2017 U.S. Tour for a free show on the Lee Creek Tavern stage, located inside Cherokee Casino & Hotel Roland. The Georgia Satellites take the stage at 9 p.m.

The band is best known for its 1986 single "Keep Your Hands To Yourself," which exploded onto the rock scene at a time when pop metal was in full force. Rock 'n' roll fans reacted by rocketing the single straight to No. 2 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Rock charts, only topped by Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer." The song was played consistently on MTV, only increasing the band's fan base, and the song won music video director Mary Deacon "Best Art Director" for the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards.

Other hits included on their self-titled, debut album were "Battleship Chains," which reached No. 86 on the Billboard charts, and "Can't Stand the Pain."

Two years later, the Georgia Satellites recorded a cover of The Swinging Blue Jeans' hit "Hippy Hippy Shake" for the movie Cocktail, charting the song to No. 45 on the Billboard charts.

The band has released four studio albums, including other fan favorites such as 1988's "Open All Night" and "Don't Pass Me By."
