Gambling Addict Gets Life for Killing OAP with Brick

LIVERPOOL, UK -- As reported by the Liverpool Daily Post: "A gambling addict who battered her elderly neighbour to death with a brick began a life sentence yesterday.

"Sheila Duenas, 53, was ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years in prison for the murder of 76-year-old Ruth Owens.

"Duenas, who was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of murder on Friday, launched a ferocious attack on Mrs Owens at her flat in Heatherfield Court, Victoria Fields, Birkenhead, on December 4 last year.

"Mrs Owens, who suffered from diabetes and had difficulty walking, was friendly with Duenas.

"...She had also loaned money to Duenas who was a keen gambler and regularly attended bingo sessions and bet on greyhounds.

"...Between November 1 and the day she murdered Mrs Owens, Duenas, who lived off state benefits, laid cash bets totalling £2,223, and on one day lost £1,000 on a bet..."
