Four companies bid for Leeds' license

LEEDS, England – As reported by the Leeds Today: "Gaming giants are beating a path to Leeds's door in the wake of its successful bid to join Britain's casino revolution.

"At least four major companies have confirmed their interest in running the Las Vegas-style attraction which the city won permission to license at the end of last month. They are:

"- Stanley Leisure. Britain's biggest casino operator has already paid £5m for first option on a seven-acre site next to Leeds United's Elland Road ground.

"-Grosvenor Casinos. Owned by the Rank Group. Its bosses recently held a meeting with church and faith leaders in Leeds to hear their concerns about large-scale gambling schemes.

"-Opera House. Opened a new casino in Scarborough last year. It has identified two potential sites in Leeds – and will invest as much as £22m in the city if it wins the licence.

"-Aspers. Co-owned by Damian Aspinall, partner of TV presenter Donna Air. It runs a South Seas-themed 1,200-capacity casino at the Gate entertainment complex in Newcastle…"
