Forest City schools get casino money

FOREST CITY, Iowa – As reported by the Forest City Summit Britt News: "Forest City Community Schools' 92 students from Worth County will net the district a little more than $50,000, thanks to revenues generated at the Diamond Jo Casino.

"Worth County Development Authority Director Kim Miller announced the award at a special School Board meeting held last week.

"…When Worth County residents proposed building a casino near the intersection of Interstate 35 and County Road 105, they promised that a portion of casino revenues would be invested in schools that served county residents. They also promised that a scholarship fund would be set up for students.

"Miller told the board that seniors who have resided in the county for at least two years would be eligible for a post-secondary education scholarship of $3,980. Students can apply for the award even if they aren't planning on attending college next year because the scholarships can be used within four years of graduating from high school…"
