FIFA warns on illegal betting

SOUTH AFRICA -- A warning has been issued by FIFA to South Africans to beware illegal betting syndicates that may invade the country prior to the World Cup, the Independent reported.

Beset with match fixing scandals in Europe, an emergency FIFA meeting will take place today, according to The Independent report.

Fifa, in conjunction with Early Warning System (EWS), is working to tackle match fixing through monitoring and education, the report suggested.
