Ex-sumo wrestler guilty over baseball gambling charges

TOKYO, Japan -- A sumo-wrestler has been convicted of gambling on baseball matches in Tokyo, the Mainichi Daily News reported.

The gambling allegations provoked a national scandal in Japan and did untold damage to the reputation of Sumo last year.

Sadahide Furuichi was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for three years, according to the Mainichi Daily News report.
