Gaming NewsEmpire City Casino Delayed Again22 September 2006YONKERS, New York – As reported by the New York Journal News: "Yonkers Raceway has pushed back its planned opening of a $240 million video lottery casino to early next month, another in a string of delays that have beset the project since its approval five years ago. "The state Division of Lottery, in a report issued in August, had targeted yesterday as the opening of Empire City at Yonkers Raceway, the largest of eight planned video gaming facilities approved by the state Legislature. "Timothy Rooney Jr., the track's general counsel and son of owner Timothy Rooney, said the raceway was now shooting for a 'soft opening' Oct. 3, which would see the first 1,871 of 5,500 planned video gaming machines open in the 107-year-old track's renovated clubhouse. "…Empire City has been beset by delays since the state Legislature approved it. A lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state law and disputes with the track's horse owners and Yonkers contributed to the delays…" |
