Emerald Downs Ready for Longest Season

WASHINGTON – As reported by the Thoroughbred: "Emerald Downs opens for its tenth and longest season on April 15 and officials with the Auburn, Washington racetrack are optimistic that changes within the industry will result in benefits for fans and horsemen during the 101-day meeting.

"Emerald Downs, which ran a 90-day meeting in 2004, will benefit from a $1.6-million investment from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe. The Muckleshoots, owners of the state's largest casino about four miles from the track, purchased the 158 acres of land that includes Emerald Downs last year.

"Emerald will offer an average daily purse distribution of about $103,000, up from $96,877 last season. The track's stakes schedule, highlighted by the Pacific Northwest's richest race in the $250,000 Longacres Mile Handicap (G3) on August 21, will award owners more than $2.2 million in purses money…"
