Detroit council backs controversial tax plan

DETROIT, Michigan -- Detroit's Mayor's controversial casino tax plan has gathered support from City Councillors, The Detroit News reported.

Detroit council voted to back the Mayor's plan, the report said.

The plan will raise casino tax by 3 percent for a one year period to help clear the burgeoning deficit, The Detroit News report said.

The final step requires approval from state lawmakers, the report added.
