Delaware Handicap winner gets Breeders Cup entry

WILMINGTON, Delaware -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The winner of the $1 million Delaware Handicap on July 13 at Delaware Park will not only earn one of the richest purses in racing, but will also gain automatic entry into the 2008 Breeders' Cup World Championships.

The Delaware Handicap is one of only four officially sanctioned "Win and You're In" Breeders' Cup Challenge qualifying races for the Ladies' Classic Division. The winner of the race will automatically qualify for the Ladies' Classic divisional race, which will be held during the two-day, 14-race, $25.5 million Breeders' Cup World Championships, October 24-25, at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The races, which will be simulcast at Delaware Park, will also be televised on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge is limited to the top racing events at the nation's premier tracks, and we are proud that the Delaware Handicap has been recognized once again as one of the most prestigious and exciting events in our sport," said Bill Fasy, chief operating officer of Delaware Park.
