Curtain comes down on Wisconsin's failed dog-racing venture

4 January 2010

WISCONSIN -- Dairyland Greyhound Park, the last state dog track, closed last Thursday, Coast-Crescent Community News reported.

Competition from other forms of gambling defeated the dog tracks, the report said

Kaukauna dog track faired well during its first year, but over the following two years it declined, eventually the facility was demolished, according to the Coast-Crescent report.

It was challenging for dog racing tracks, which had their heyday in the late 1980's and early 1990's to compete with the pace and glitz of casinos, the report noted.
