Councillors May Withdraw Support for New Edmonton Casino

EDMONTON, Canada – As reported by the Edmonton Journal: ``All bets are off when city council convenes next week to make its final decision on the Baccarat Casino's proposed $30-million expansion.

``Two councillors who supported the project now say they will likely change their vote, The Journal has learned.

``…Those admissions have set the stage for a high-stakes meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, with councillors ready to lay down their cards on the Baccarat's future.

``…But a lawyer for Gateway Casinos, which owns the Baccarat, said there is still hope for his client to come out on top.

``…The company is hoping to build a new 9,290-square-metre Baccarat Casino at 104th Street and 104th Avenue to replace its smaller facility three blocks to the east. If approved, the new gaming centre would be the city's largest…"
