Club Cal Neva Closing Reno's Virginian Hotel

RENO, Nevada -- As reported by the Associated Press: "The Club Cal Neva hotel and casino is closing its 125-room Virginian tower in downtown Reno this weekend.

"The closure of the 16-story tower will result only in a small number of voluntary layoffs, company officials said. The closure will not affect its main casino adjacent to the Virginian on Virginian Street or the 181-room Nevadan tower across the street.

"...It is unknown what will happen with the building after it is vacated.

"The Virginian tower is owned by the French firm Partouche, which owns more than 40 hotels and casinos in France and other parts of Europe.

"...The Cal Neva, which employs about 1,200 people, did not have hotel rooms before 1999, when the Nevadan was purchased and the Virginian leased..."
