Chile's public prosecutors prohibited from gambling

CHILE -- As reported by El Mercurio: "Public prosecutors in Chile won't be placing any bets, playing bingo, or stepping into any casinos - thanks to a newly added article to Chile's gambling laws which prohibit government officials and policemen from placing bets.

"The National Prosecutor's office - in an internal directive sent out in June – said the new law will directly impact the country's 665 public prosecutors.

"Prosecutors violating the directive can be fined a minimum of CP$110,000 to CP$550,000 (around US$200 – US$1,000). They will also run a risk of losing their jobs. The directive applies to any civil servants who come into contact with the administration of public funds, including human resource and information technology staff..."
