Casino Rock Island workers stay loyal

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – As reported by the Quad-Cities News: "Becky Buhman and Gayle Millard know something about employee loyalty and dedication. They've placed their bets on Casino Rock Island, and like many others are waiting patiently for that big payoff.

"Mrs. Buhman, 35, a slot shift manager, and Ms. Millard, 49, a casino cage supervisor, are among the 40-odd employees -- out of a staff of 370 -- who have been with the gaming boat since it opened in 1992.

"…'Let's face it, since riverboat gaming started, how many opportunities have arisen? A lot of people have moved around,' Bill Renk, Casino Rock Island's vice president of sales and marketing, said of its staff. 'If they moved from here, I don't think it's any secret, with all those years we fought for dockside, could you blame anyone? We're very proud of the fact that we've got so many original employees.'

"Ms. Millard and Mrs. Buhman reflect the casino's strong commitment to superior customer service, Mr. Renk said.

"…Having a spacious 42,000-square-foot casino on one level 'will be so nice,' Mrs. Buhman said.

"…Now, 17,200 square feet of gaming is spread across five levels on two vessels, and employees who need to go to administrative offices have to go outside and across to another boat and up the stairs, she said…"
