A new tribal community center was first to open and now the Eagles Landing Casino stands in a nearby farm field. "Members of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe once only dreamed of such development on their Saganing lands. Today, they celebrate what they've accomplished. "...When Saganing Eagles Landing Casino opened in Standish on Dec. 31, it sounded more than clanging of slot machines. It has acted as a wake-up call for economic development in Arenac and northern Bay counties. Businesses are adding specials for gamblers or deals for the 305 employees the casino has hired. "...The words 'Saganing' and 'prosper' have been terms far apart for decades. The reservation in southeast Arenac County is in a rural area with one of the state's highest unemployment rates at 11.5 percent..." |
