Gaming NewsCasino Apologizes for Targeting Debtors13 April 2004Las Vegas Sun ISLETA PUEBLO, New Mexico -- Isleta Pueblo's governor has apologized for an Isleta casino ad that suggested people could pay their debts by gambling. "The ads reflected poor judgment and conveyed a message that is wrong and misleading," longtime Gov. Alvino Lucero wrote in a letter of apology on behalf of the pueblo south of Albuquerque and Isleta Casino and Resort. The ads, which aired for several weeks, stopped running in late March. The 30-second television spots, plugging a series of cash giveaways, featured a narrator saying, "So, the holidays have passed and those credit card bills just keep piling up, and there seems to be no relief in sight. Well, Isleta Casino Resort comes to your rescue!" Lucero's letter said the pueblo and its casino "take very seriously our responsibility to discourage problem gamblers or those in financial distress from gambling." Copyright © Las Vegas Sun. Inc.
