Carson City Train Depot Could Become Casino

CARSON CITY, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "A potential east Carson City train depot site for the rebuilt Virginia & Truckee Railroad also could become home to the proposed Beverly Hillbillies Casino.

"The Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway on Monday narrowed possible terminal locations from nine to two, including 153 acres east of the Lyon County border where 'conceptual plans' call for a hotel-casino and retail and office space, said developer Andy Hettrick.

"Hettrick, project manager for RIDL Ltd., confirmed the company has had discussions with Max Baer Jr. on the planned resort component of the project. Baer, who portrayed Jethro Bodine on 'The Beverly Hillbillies' TV show, has proposed building a hotel-casino in the capital city that features a flaming oil derrick.

"Baer owns the former Wal-Mart building in south Carson City and wants to construct a hotel-casino at the location. But his idea has run into opposition from neighboring retailers and city officials…"
