California Casino Proposal Rejected

WILLOWS, California – As reported by the Chico Enterprise: "A proposal to build a casino on Interstate 5 in Glenn County blew away with the wind Tuesday.

"Hearing both supportive and opposing viewpoints from the public at its scheduled meeting, the Glenn County Board of Supervisors voted 2-3 not to support the casino proposal from the Grindstone Rancheria of Wintun-Wailaki Indians.

"Tribal Chairman Ken Swearinger said little following Monday's meeting, other than acknowledging his disappointment.

"…The board's support was crucial to the Grindstone tribe, which has a lease/purchase option for a parcel on I-5 at County Road 39. To put a casino on the site, the Indians needed the board's support in order to get the land placed in trust and the approval of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger…"
