Blue Chip Casino construction begins

7 March 2007

MICHIGAN – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Construction of a $130 million hotel and entertainment center began this week at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City.

The Northwest Indiana Times reports that the new facility will include a 22-story hotel and a pavilion area with restaurants, nightclubs and a spa. Work is scheduled to be complete in late 2008.

The project begins about a year after the launching of a new $170 million gaming vessel. Company officials say revenues have increased 16 percent since the new vessel opened.

The new hotel and entertainment center also is expected to help Blue Chip compete with a land-based casino in Michigan operated by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians that is scheduled to open this year.
