Billings casino rule change considered17 April 2007
BILLINGS, Montana – As reported by the Billings Gazette: "As the City Council considers new regulations that could limit the number and locations of casinos, council members have begun discussing topics such as whether casinos should be clustered together or sprinkled throughout the community.
"Council members reviewed a proposed Casino Overlay District as a text amendment to the city's zoning regulations during Monday's council work session.
"The proposed regulations, based partly on similar ordinances used in Bozeman and Missoula, were drafted at the request of the council.
"…The number of casinos has grown since video gambling was legalized 20 years ago, and the council deals with casinos regularly. Since 2004 the council has considered 11 special reviews for casinos. Of those, eight were approved, according to the City-County Planning Department…"
