Sumner County residents voice opinions7 July 2008KANSAS -- As reported by the Wichita Eagle: "Les Sims of Mulvane hopes to talk about how the city went against the wishes of voters and pursued a casino for its Kansas Turnpike exit. "Linda Parker plans to support the city's effort and rave about Harrah's plans for the exit. "Others plan to talk about how the county's casino needs to be more centrally located at the Turnpike's Wellington exit, including Rep. Vince Wetta, who is a large reason why all these people and many more will be talking about casinos at a public hearing this week. "For the first time, these and other Sumner County residents will get to express their feelings directly to the seven people who will actually choose where the county's casino will be located and who will manage it. "After all the zoning, annexation and endorsement hearings, and with a lawsuit still pending, the state's casino review board will conduct a hearing Thursday and Friday in Belle Plaine, considered neutral territory in the county's contentious casino debate. "The three casino applicants -- Harrah's Entertainment-Sumner Gaming for Mulvane, and Penn National Gaming and Marvel Gaming for Wellington -- will present their plans to the board in that order starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. "The board will take public comment Friday afternoon following Marvel's presentation..." |
