Queensland halts pokie release18 April 2008AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the Australia News:"The Queensland Government has halted the release of new poker machines as part of sweeping plans to reduce problem gambling across the state. "Premier Anna Bligh today announced no new poker machines would be released to pubs and clubs statewide for the next two years, with 2000 that had been set for release to be kept in storage. "She said this would bring the concentration of poker machines in Queensland, currently 0.014 per capita, into line with the national average of 0.013, creating a more responsible and regulated approach to gaming in the state..." |
