Chief still wants Arizona tribal casino26 July 2007ARIZONA -- As reported by the Arizona Journal: "Although the first Navajo Nation casino will be built in New Mexico, President Joe Shirley Jr. has not given up on the idea of building a casino in Northeastern Arizona. "During his July 16 State of the Nation address, Shirley made reference to plans for two sites, one in Church Rock, N.M., located on Interstate 40 east of Gallup, where the first casino will be built, and one along the I-40 corridor in Arizona. "'Also under consideration is the possibility of a permanent casino off of Interstate 40 on the Arizona side of the nation,' Shirley said. "We are in the process of receiving financial pro forma containing information that these areas will generate substantial gaming profits for the nation." "...Once the Church Rock casino is built, Shirley noted that the nation could continue using the line of credit to build additional casinos, or could seek capital investments from developers..." |
