DFS news roundup: Payment processor Vantiv bows out of industry

4 February 2016
The daily fantasy sports industry experienced a major setback late last week when a payment processor told the major DFS sites it would no longer handle their transactions and was leaving the industry entirely. The New York Times reported that Vantiv Entertainment Solutions, which handles a "significant ... (read more)

DFS news roundup: California bill advances to Senate with ease

28 January 2016
The California State Assembly became the first legislative body in the nation to approve a bill to regulate daily fantasy sports (DFS) on Wednesday, and it did so with a flourish. Three weeks after the Internet Fantasy Sports Game Protection Act (AB 1437) passed through a committee hearing by a resounding 18-1 margin, the bill needed 54 votes to move onto the state Senate. ... Top 10 highlights of my first (non-business) trip to Vegas

25 January 2016
My old college roommate and I had been planning our first Las Vegas trip basically since the day we became friends. That was about eight years ago. Last weekend, we finally made it happen. On Thursday night, I flew from Boston to Detroit to meet my friend in his hometown, and on Friday night, we stuffed our wallets with cash and hopped on a plane to Vegas. ... (read more)

Dan's DFS picks for NFL Championship Round

21 January 2016
Well, I flamed out last week in the $100 buy-in Millionaire Maker on DraftKings. My Divisional round lineup was a complete bust. With just three games left in the 2015 NFL season, it's time to make it count in these GPPs. No more complete busts. No more min-cashes. I want a five-figure score or nothing. ... (read more)

Dan's DFS picks: Divisional round

14 January 2016
I swear, if it weren't for two ridiculous plays in last week's Wild-Card playoff round, I would have won the Millionaire Maker on DraftKings. My lineup was good enough to cash for $35 – my fourth straight week with a cash – but I'm sure I would have hit at least a four-figure score if Kam Chancellor hadn't ... (read more)

Dan's DFS picks: Wild Card round

7 January 2016
Playoffs! Playoffs? That's right, folks, you haven't lost me yet. The 2015 NFL regular season may be over, but I'm back for the postseason with a fresh slate and a brand new mantra. "You play to win the game!" For our purposes, that means we're playing to win some cash, and both DraftKings and FanDuel have upped the ante with some exciting GPPs for the NFL playoffs. ... Dan's DFS picks for NFL Week 17

31 December 2015
Hold onto your hats, folks. We've officially embarked on what is commonly known as a "winning streak." My Week 16 lineup produced a respectable 167.62 points on DraftKings last week, good for a better-than-min-cash in the site's Millionaire Maker. That's right: We've now cashed two weeks in a row in DraftKings GPPs. ... (read more)

Top 10 poker stories of 2015

28 December 2015
The landscape of the poker world changed for the better – and the worse – in several ways this year, but overall, 2015 was an exciting year for poker players and fans alike. Poker picked up momentum in the U.S. in 2015, as the World Series of Poker hosted the largest live tournament of all time in May and some states moved closer to regulating the game online. ... Dan's DFS picks for NFL Week 16

22 December 2015
It's a Christmas miracle . . . we cashed! After a four-week losing streak, my Week 15 lineup broke through and made the money in the final DraftKings Millionaire Maker of 2015. And it was a big win, too, because I spent the last $20 in my account to buy in to the tournament. Still, I'm having a pretty terrible daily fantasy football season. ... (read more)
