Revised college football score leaves Vegas sportsbooks confused

12 September 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- On the opening Sunday of the NFL season, one of the hottest topics in Las Vegas sports books was a college football game from Saturday night. Michigan's thrilling upset of Notre Dame was an instant classic, to be sure. But about two hours after the conclusion of Utah-Southern California, a score change created mass confusion. ... Nevada sees slight Super Bowl handle increase

10 February 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- On the field, where Drew Brees led the New Orleans Saints to an upset victory, the Super Bowl featured a surprising finish. At Nevada sports books, the results were more predictable. The statewide wagering handle of $82.7 million represented a slight increase from the game's 2009 handle, and the books posted a win for the 14th time in 15 years, holding 8.3 percent. ... 8 February 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- No event in sports is preceded by more hype than the Super Bowl. Some years, the buildup leads to a big letdown and a blowout. Underdog bettors profit as Colts fall

Vegas has plenty of props for Super Bowl

29 January 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Only in the Super Bowl can a golfer (Phil Mickelson), a hockey star (Sidney Crosby) and a socialite/TV personality (Kim Kardashian) figure into the outcome of a wager. This is a football game unlike any other. The betting public has already picked a side. The Indianapolis Colts are 5 1/2-point favorites over the New Orleans Saints on Feb. ... (read more)

Vegas sportsbooks ready for marquee Super Bowl

25 January 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Betting against Peyton Manning is rarely advised. It's not as dumb as staring into the summer sun, which is a no-win situation, but it does fall in the category of playing with fire. Spot the opposing team a double-digit lead, dare Manning to rally and cover as a big favorite, and he puts up 24 unanswered points. ... (read more)

Bookmakers living a nightmare in Vegas

26 October 2009
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- A screen pass from Brett Favre turned ugly, the Pittsburgh Steelers got a fluke point-spread cover and more favorites continued to win in blowouts. The formula surely had more than a few sports book directors dropping F-bombs. The bottom line from Week 7 in the NFL: It was the best Sunday to be a bettor, and the worst Sunday to be a bookmaker. ... (read more)

Football contests fuel Vegas sportsbooks

2 September 2009
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- It's easy to see when football season has arrived. Las Vegas sports books, which sometimes resemble ghost towns during the summer months, become the busiest parts of many casinos. Football contests play a big role in triggering the foot traffic. Almost every casino off the Strip hosts ... (read more)

13 July 2009
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- A monster challenge faced Frank Mir in the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title fight Saturday.
