Casino City’s Friday Five: DraftKings edition

16 November 2018

Sports betting continues to make headlines in the U.S., with several sportsbooks opening, including another in New Jersey. Also making our Friday Five are two jackpot winners, an Atlantic City resort expansion and Penn National Gaming acquiring a casino.

5. Slotastic player hits $95,259 on Megasaur
After an evening of small bets, a Slotastic player placed a max bet and won $95,259.32 on one spin.

Graziella, who’s been playing at Slotastic since 2015, was just making small bets on some of her favorite games when after several small wins she hit the motherload, cashing in for $95,259 on the Megasaur slot's progressive jackpot.

The winner said, “I’d just been placing small bets all night. After a few small wins I figured it was time to increase my bets. I was sure glad I did because it was only a couple more spins before I got three scatters, which triggered 10 free spins. When I saw that the Mega Jackpot had been activated for those spins I was almost too nervous to click the Spin button! I couldn’t believe it when I got five Volcanoes and won the Mega Jackpot!”

4. LeoVegas player wins record Yggdrasil jackpot
A lucky player is celebrating after winning SEK 80 million (€7.8 million) on Yggdrasil’s flagship progressive jackpot slot, Joker Millions.

Last Friday evening, betting 5 SEK, equal to about 50 cents, on Yggdrasil’s Joker Millions on the LeoVegas mobile platform, this player hit the big jackpot, which had reached a record €7.8 million and is the largest win on Joker Millions to this date.

The total sum of jackpots rewarded through Yggdrasil’s global progressive jackpot slots is now reaching €26.7 million.

3. JACK Entertainment to sell Greektown Casino to Penn National Gaming
Following a strategic assessment of its business portfolio, JACK Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it has entered into a contract to sell Greektown Casino Hotel for $1 billion cash. Under the terms of the agreements, Penn National will acquire the operating assets of Greektown for approximately $300 million, and VICI Properties will acquire the land and real estate assets of Greektown, for approximately $700 million.

“Our purchase of Greektown Casino Hotel five and a half years ago, soon after its bankruptcy, allowed us to work with the great team at the property to create a winning culture and a vibrant business,” said Dan Gilbert, Chairman of JACK Entertainment and Founder and Chairman of Rock Ventures. “The sale to Penn National and VICI Properties will allow that strong trajectory to continue and provide additional capital to continue our strategic investments in our Detroit real estate and business initiatives.”

The sale is expected to be finalized sometime in 2019. JACK Entertainment is continuing a strategic assessment for its remaining gaming properties.

2. Harrah’s Atlantic City announces plans for $56 million Coastal Tower
Atlantic City continues to expand. Back in June, Ocean Resort Casino and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Atlantic City celebrated grand openings. Other Atlantic City resorts are also taking strides in the right direction.

Harrah's Resort Atlantic City announced on Wednesday plans for a $56 million guest room and suite renovation in its Coastal Tower, featuring 507 finely appointed guest rooms and suites, to be completed in its entirety by summer 2019.

The room and suite upgrades are part of Caesars Entertainment's total investment of over $250 million into its Atlantic City casino-resorts over the last four years, which includes the $125 million Waterfront Conference Center, the revamped Pool After Dark nightclub, and the recent debut of Gordon Ramsay Steak, the seven-Michelin star chef and television personality's first steakhouse concept in the tri-state area.

Harrah's Resort will re-design and enhance 507 guest rooms and suites in the current Harbor Tower, partnering with a local design house, MPM Studios, to curate the in-room guest experience.

Coastal rooms, which will boast approximately 450-square-feet of space, will offer fresh design elements, similar in aesthetics to the resort's Bayview rooms, and will feature rich hues of lavender and blue accent colors, contrasting white and gray tones, and contemporary furniture, including a vanity dressing area. Freshly appointed modern bathrooms will offer oversized showers and signature amenities.

Hard-wired for business-minded travelers seeking to be constantly plugged in, all Coastal rooms and suites will be technology-rich with high-speed internet access and accessible charging stations, in addition to featuring 55-inch LG LED televisions.

The first phase of the newly-renovated Coastal Tower is set to debut in early 2019.
