Blackjack Side Bets

2 July 2011

A skilled blackjack player, using basic strategy alone, can reduce the house advantage to less than one percent. To overcome that low edge and increase the house's take at blackjack, casino management has introduced many different side bets to the game over the last few years. In fact, new ones are continually being tried out to see how players react to them. When playing a side bet, the house advantage is increased, sometimes to a very high level. There are side bets that range from 6 percent in favor of the house to as high as 29 percent. Side bets at blackjack are never good for the player. Also, it's important to remember taking Insurance when the dealer has an ace is also a side bet. A good rule is not to take insurance and don't take even money when you have a blackjack.
