All gamblers should have records!

20 April 2013

Keeping good records of your play should be an important part of a good money management program. How well you are doing in a specific casino or game will become clear if you keep accurate records. Adding comments about particular rules at a blackjack table in a certain casino, for example, can be helpful to you when planning a future trip. Don’t overlook the value of record-keeping as part of managing your bankroll.

You should keep a log to record detailed information about all your visits, such as where you played and how much you won or lost. You should also record the time spent at each game or casino. After recording the information, you need to analyze it. This will help you to see your progress as you play and learn. For example, you might feel you have done well at a specific casino; however, when reviewing your logs, you might see a different story. Use record-keeping as a tool in your arsenal of knowledge. Make it a habit to review your logs before each visit to a casino.

In addition to helping you see your progress at gambling, you can use your logs to help you with taxes. The IRS will want to see lots of documentation if you decide to list gambling as a deduction. Thus, a log can be a very important item in helping to substantiate figures that might be reviewed during a tax audit.

The bottom line is, don’t rely on remembrances that may be blurred by the many distractions normally found at the casino. Keep a good log!

  • Today there are 15 states that have dog racing. In the past, 40 states operated dog tracks.

  • The lake in front of the Bellagio hotel-casino in Las Vegas, featuring the magnificent ballet of dancing fountains, encompasses eight acres. There are more than 1,000 fountains on the manmade lake, which can shoot water 243 feet in the air.

  • During the summer of 1955 the giant V-shaped swimming pool at the Dunes hotel-casino in Las Vegas was occasionally frozen over to accommodate ice-skating and figure skating exhibitions.

  • When it comes to greyhounds, no names are allowed that have a tendency to mislead the public as to the pup’s breeding. Designations like “The”, Jr., Sr., I or II, etc., are not permitted, nor are names that contain more than 16 letters allowed.
